We began discussing power issues with the IT department, conducted a site survey, and ended up identifying hot spots and providing a heat load analysis. The analysis included a space study and design for a rack mountable server room cooling unit. The time we invested in building computer rooms paid off on this one.
The network server room was small and overheating. The client had tried several small portable HVAC units, but they could not handle the load, especially in winter. Yes, winter. The outdoor condensing unit was not designed to run with temps in the 20s.
We installed two one-ton rack-mounted cooling units with exhaust discharge out of the room. This solution provided necessary cooling and redundancy at an affordable level. Power filtering and surge suppression was also installed. The server room remained at a comfortable temperature and the equipment stayed safe.
